The Consumer price index from United Kingdom stood at 9.1% in May, compared to 9% the previous month, which represents the highest rate of inflation since March 1982, reported this Wednesday the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The rise in inflation responded to the increase in the prices of goods for daily use and services, especially gas and electricity, as well as the rise in fuel, according to the ONS. The increase is related to the unprecedented rise in the ceiling established for the prices of energy products.

ONS Chief Economist Grant Fitzner noted that “continued sharp increases in food prices and record gasoline prices were offset by a smaller increase in clothing compared to last year.”
After knowing the inflation rate, the Minister of Economy, Rishi Sunak, admitted to the media that “people are concerned about the increase in the cost of living, which is why we have taken specific measures to help families, contributing 1,200 pounds (1,392 euros) to the eight million most vulnerable households.
“We are using all the tools at our disposal to reduce inflation and combat rising prices, we can build a stronger economy through independent monetary policy, responsible fiscal policy that does not add to inflationary pressures,” he added. .
