Brigades to “fight against choleros” are eliminated in Havana

Cuba, coleros, colas

Havana Cuba. – The official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso has announced on its Facebook page that the Government of Havana made the decision to eliminate that citizen plague and appendage of administrative corruption that were the anti-colero brigades (LCC, for its acronym). Said battalion of covered up criminals was conceived by the Cuban authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to organize the kilometric queues in commercial establishments and keep hoarders and resellers at bay.

The strategy did not take long to prove ineffective, since now it was the “organizers” who were dedicated to profiting from the need and desperation of the people without even exposing themselves to being arrested by the Police, since they had a “patent to commit a crime.”

Most of the members of the LCC came from some stratum of power in the province, or maintained close ties with the authorities. The presidents of the committee, constituency delegates, community whistleblowers, government office workers and many others who came to the queues with a ruffian attitude, bragging about a supposed “position” that allowed them to act in an arbitrary, disrespectful and rude manner participated. . On occasions, there were also State Security agents monitoring the queues in “hot” neighborhoods.

The LCC, present both in the bread queue and in the freely convertible currency (MLC) stores, diverted wholesale resources and ended up forming a mafia that went beyond the assigned establishment to involve the other businesses in the area. The population began to complain about their behavior as soon as they began to intervene in the queues, but the authorities decided not to do anything about it because everyone, from the governor to the police officers, profited from the trafficking of basic necessities.

From now on, according to Lázaro Manuel Alonso, the organization of the queues will be the responsibility of the workers of each store and the sale of products will continue through the ration card. The Provincial Government of Havana will issue cards to facilitate/control the purchase of chicken, mincemeat, sausages, oil and detergent to those who do not have the supply booklet.

Tickets will be distributed with the necessary data to prevent consumers from cheating, and there will be extended sales hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in order to serve working customers.

This is a new bureaucracy that should already be studied by the usual corruption with the intention of outwitting it. No card will put an end to a problem caused by the structural crisis of the system and the imbalance between supply and demand. The Cuban government knows this, but it cannot do anything other than repeat the usual formulas, although none of them produce results.
