Ilka Ábrego, spokeswoman for the Bri Bri people, made a series of complaints this Wednesday, on Radio Panama, about irregularities that occur in the community, such as the indiscriminate felling of trees, among others.
He declared that his people have a mission to protect mother earth. “For more than 20 years we have been in conflict with foreign people who are from Chiriquí or Changuinola, who discovered this paradise and now we are in legal controversies, since unfortunately through ANATI they have been granting property titles when we had previously requested to have territorial security under Law 72 of collective lands,” he commented.
He added that there is also a lot of wood of various kinds and indiscriminate logging is being carried out and no authority sets a limit, despite the fact that they have filed complaints with the Ministry of the Environment.
