Connie Ansaldi is a woman with the power of reinvention: a characteristic for which for years —in addition to leading his own startup: the first NFT marketplace, Carnaval .art— is dedicated to encouraging other women to reinvent themselves, and thus achieve their dream goals.
By the way, within the framework of the Women Leaders Forum carried out by the Organization of Business Women of Uruguay (OMEU) on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was presented at the Teatro Solís with the aim of thinking about the place that women occupy in the workplaceand the challenges that lie ahead to get to the place they want to occupy.
In this regard, he stressed that the most difficult challenge is the one women have with themselves; get out of the prejudices established in the culture.
— How many times do we hear that women sexy aren’t they smart? asked Ansaldi, and invited those present to think —among other examples— if as a consequence of this prejudice they decided not to wear a garment to a work meeting because it was very low-cut.
— This prejudice is installed in the culture, and that is why we have itHe replied, and affirmed that this is precisely what we must fight against.
This was done almost 100 years ago by Hedy Lamarr, who pioneered erotic cinema for what was considered too sexy to be intelligent. However, she was also one of the first to break with the traditional rules of communication to invent the spread spectrum technique, thanks to which Wi-Fi currently exists.
“I do not want you (referring to women) to continue to identify with any of these types of axiomsAnsaldi said.
against the cement minds
Ansaldi presented statistical data regarding the position of women in the workplace.
First, he said that in the field of trade (purchase and sale of financial assets) women represent only 15%.
And this —marked by cultural constructions— because women believe that they cannot manage other people’s money.
Secondly, he said that of those people at the head of technology companies, women represent only 7%.
Thirdly —and in relation to what was mentioned above— he said that Only 3% of university students decide to study a career related to programming, this being a discipline with a greater job opportunity.
And this because women believe that technology is an activity for men.
“The first thing we have to hack is our assessment of ourselves”Ansaldi stated.
In this sense, he explained that the important thing is not to break the glass ceiling, but the cement mind: “It is precisely about changing this narrative, starting with our cement minds since we are the ones who say that a certain activity is not for me because I am not going to understand it”.
And to conclude, referring to the initiative of rBreaking the glass ceiling said that precisely because of the drive for women to be in leadership positions in companies, this number has evolved over time. In fact, it is the one that has grown the most, going from 0% in 1995 to 28% in 2021.
“Sometimes for the changes to be installed you have to force them. What I come to propose is that Let’s forget about the glass ceiling for a second because it has already been shown that we are on the way to breaking it and let’s go through the cement minds, starting with our own”, he finished.
