Bread is going to modify its statutes to face Morena

In an interview with Political expansionthe PAN explained that more than 35 consultation forums go, since it is planned that in November the National Assembly of the PAN is carried out to present the final project that reforms the PAN statutes.

“All the proposals and concerns that have been expressing at this time are around five axes: our affiliation, citizen participation, selection of candidacies, women’s rights and planning, control and evaluation of our internal organs,” he explained.

He commented that the main proposal of the militants is the simplification of the affiliation. This means, he said, it is easier and easy to register with the PAN.

He mentioned that currently to join, they ask the interested parties to take workshops that the party gives, so he stated that they can be digitally and not only face -to -face.

“The affiliation has had different locks over time, which were implemented to avoid certain political issues and situation, but at the moment they are no longer necessary. We have to open the party to the citizenship and the militancy is aware of that,” he said.

And the second point in tendency is the mechanisms of citizen participation; That is, in how bread can make its structures more participation of citizens from their programs, electoral platforms and candidacies of the party.

“There is citizenship that is interested because it likes the way it governs bread and it seems that bread is the platform that represents them and that through us could – the best – to exercise a public office,” said the PAN.

“Precisely for all these citizens, we believe that there may be greater opening of the party in the case of the processes of selection of candidacies, without neglecting all our militants and that they continue to have that possibility of looking for some candidacy of the PAN. Nor can we close ourselves to the citizens who want the bread to be the way to look for some position and do a good, because they can also do it,” he added.

In addition, he mentioned that these reforms could be used for the next electoral process of 2027, when 500 federal deputies and 17 governors are elected.

For this, the PAN, formed a special commission that will consult the PAN militancy in face -to -face and digital forums, and after its approaches a general proposal arose that was presented at the National Assembly on November 29.

This commission is made up of 44 commissioners and three special guests and was installed on May 19, 2025, six months after Jorge Romero was elected as president of the PAN.

Bread debacle

With the arrival in 2018 of Marko Cortés to the presidency of the PAN members and the arrival of Morena to the federal government, the debacle of the PAN began, as 11 state went to four; It decreased 26% of its militants and lost 10 federal legislators.

In 2018, when Marko Cortés assumed the presidency, the party headed the Gubernaturas of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Puebla, Chihuahua, Durango, Nayarit, Aguascalientes, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, Querétaro and Yucatán. These states became their bastions when they were governed by PANists … until Morena arrived.

In the last six years, they reduced the number of militants of 378, 838 in 2017 to 277, 665 in 2023. Also in this period their number of legislators decreased: in 2018 he managed to obtain 104 deputies and senators, and in 2024 he reached 94.

Jorge Romero’s promise

During the campaign for the presidency of the PAN, Jorge Romero promised to reform the statutes of the party to establish that who is the leader of the party does not seek a legislator as Marko Cortés did.

“If I became the president of the PAN, the first thing I would do, among many other things, is to reform our statutes. If you want to preside over the bread, you concentrate on presiding over the bread,” he said in an interview for Radio formula in September 2024.

He also said in December 2024 that another reform would be to open the candidacies to primary elections, which is when the party candidates are elected through elections.
