Brazil’s coffee exports fall in 2025, but break record in revenue

Brazil exports 46 million bags of coffee, reaching a record in 2024

In 2025, Brazil sold 40.04 million bags of 60 kilos (kg) of coffee abroad, a drop of 20.8% compared to 2024. However, revenue from exporting the product last year broke a record: US$15.586 billion, an increase of 24.1% compared to the previous year. The data, released this Monday (19), are from the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).Brazil's coffee exports fall in 2025, but break record in revenue

Revenue from foreign sales recorded in 2025 is the highest since 1990when Cecafé started the survey. Brazilian exports were destined for 121 countries.

According to the president of Cecafé, Márcio Ferreira, the record is the result of the increase in the value of the product in 2025 and the sector’s investments in quality.

“We had higher monthly price averages in 2025 and our well-organized coffee growers maintain their investments in technology, innovation and quality, which raises the level of Brazilian coffees and, consequently, their value. Not surprisingly, we are the only origin in the world that can export to more than 120 countries, accounting for more than a third of market share global,” he said.

Tariff

According to Ferreira, the decrease in the number of bags exported was already expected in 2025 due to the weather and record shipments recorded a year earlier, which reduced stocks. “We exported a historic volume in 2024, reducing the amount of coffee stored in the country, and last year’s harvest was impacted by the weather, a combination that culminated in limiting the availability of the product,” he explained.

Also influencing the result, according to him, were the 50% tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian products..

“In the almost four months that tariffs were in effect on all types of coffee in Brazil, between the beginning of August and the end of November – it is worth remembering that soluble coffee still remains taxed –, our shipments to North Americans plummeted by 55%, mostly affected by these taxes”, he highlighted.

Main destinations

With the acquisition of 5.4 million bags, Germany took the lead among the largest importers of coffee from Brazil last yeardespite the volume implying a 28.8% drop in sales to the country, compared to 2024. This amount represented 13.5% of all Brazilian shipments of the product in 2025.

The United States, usually leaders in this classification, dropped to second place last year, as a reflection of the decline observed during the tariff period.. The Americans imported 5.3 million bags in 2025 – 13.4% of the total, a drop of 33.9% compared to the 12 months of 2024.

Types of coffee

In the 12 months of last year, Arabica coffee was the species most exported by Brazil, with 32.3 million bags sold abroad. This volume is equivalent to 80.7% of the total.

The canephora species (conilon and Robusta) comes next, with the shipment of 3.9 million bags (10% of the total), followed by the soluble coffee sector, with 3.6 million bags (9.2%), and by the roasted and roasted and ground coffee segment, with 58,474 bags (0.1%).
