Brazilians have yet to withdraw R$8.56 billion in amounts owed

Brazilians have not yet withdrawn R$8.56 billion in funds forgotten in the financial system by the end of July, the Central Bank (BC) announced this Friday (6). So far, the Receivables System (SVR) returned R$7.67 billion, out of a total of R$16.23 billion made available by financial institutions.Brazilians have yet to withdraw R$8.56 billion in amounts owed

SVR statistics are released with a two-month time lag. In terms of the number of beneficiaries, by the end of July, 22,201,251 account holders had withdrawn funds. Although the number has surpassed 22 million, this represents only 32.8% of the total of 67,691,066 account holders included in the list since the beginning of the program in February 2022.

Among those who have already withdrawn amounts, 20,607,621 are individuals and 1,593,630 are legal entities. Among those who have not yet withdrawn, 41,878,403 are individuals and 3,611,412 are legal entities.

Most individuals and companies who have not yet made a withdrawal are entitled to small amounts. Amounts up to R$10 account for 63.01% of beneficiaries. Amounts between R$10.01 and R$100 account for 25.32% of account holders. Amounts between R$100.01 and R$1,000 account for 9.88% of customers. Only 1.78% are entitled to receive more than R$1,000.

After being offline for almost a year, the SVR was reopened in March 2023, with new sources of funding, a new scheduling system and the possibility of recovering funds from deceased individuals. In July, R$280 million was withdrawn, an increase compared to the previous month, when R$270 million had been withdrawn.

Improvements

The current phase of the SVR has important new features, such as printing screens and request protocols for sharing on WhatsApp and the inclusion of all types of values provided for in the SVR standard. There will also be a virtual waiting room, which allows all users to make the consultation on the same day, without the need for a schedule by year of birth or company foundation.

In addition to these improvements, it is now possible to consult the amounts of a deceased person, with access for the heir, executor, executor or legal representative. As with queries for living people, the system informs the institution responsible for the amount and the amount range. There is also greater transparency for those with joint accounts. If one of the account holders requests the withdrawal of a forgotten amount, the other, upon logging into the system, will be able to see the information: such as the amount, date and CPF of the person who made the request.

Expansion

Since last Tuesday (3), the BC has allowed closed companies to consult values in the SVR. The redemption, however, cannot be done through the system, with the legal representative of the closed company sending the necessary documentation to the financial institution.

Since companies with inactive CNPJs do not have digital certificates, access was not possible before. This is because queries to the SVR are made exclusively through the Gov.br account.

Now the legal representative can access the SVR with the Gov.br personal account (gold or silver) and sign a liability waiver to consult the values. The solution applied is similar to the access to consult the values of deceased persons.

Sources of resources

Last year, forgotten sources of funds that were not in last year’s batches were included. Closed pre- or post-paid payment accounts, closed registration accounts held by brokers and distributors, and other resources available at institutions for return were added.

In addition to these sources, the SVR includes the following amounts, which were already available for withdrawal last year: closed checking or savings accounts; capital shares and distribution of net surpluses of former credit union members; unsought funds from closed consortium groups; fees charged unduly; and installments or expenses of credit operations charged unduly.

Scams

The Central Bank advises account holders to be careful with scams of fraudsters who claim to act as intermediaries for supposed recovery of forgotten amounts. The agency emphasizes that all of Valores a Receber’s services are completely free, and that it does not send links or contact anyone to discuss amounts to be received or to confirm personal data.

The BC also clarifies that only the financial institution that appears in the Amounts Receivable System query can contact the citizen. The agency also asks that no citizen provide passwords and clarifies that no one is authorized to make such a request.
