Botafogo is the first to have made a move after the Colombian terminated his contract with Olympiacos
The maximum shareholder of the carioca club has already transferred a first offer to James and hopes to have his complicity
James Rodríguez’s career is going downhill. It is an objective fact. At 31 years old (he will be 32 in June), rsplit his contract with Olympiacos with six games left to finish the Greek league. Offers, however, will not be lacking. And the first to make a move was Botafogo, the traditional club from Rio de Janeiro.
Its largest shareholder, the American john textorhas revealed that ‘Fogao’ is not only interested in taking over the services of the former Real Madrid player but is already has made a first move, contacting the representative of the midfielder.
The Botafoguense management is looking for a footballer with an international poster to lead the new sports project. Something you already did in your day Clarence Seedorf that left a very good taste in the mouth at the Lone Star club, where he played two seasons (2012 and 2013) before retiring.
The ‘Fogao’ has things very clear. Before structuring any type of offer, he wants James to get wet and say publicly that he wants to go play in Rio de Janeiro. From there, they would begin to talk about emoluments, which, during his time in Greece, were 3 million euros per year.
“I like to monitor the market, it is true that we have spoken with James’ representative, but, for me, the key moment will be when he says he wants to play here. He needs to pick up the phone and say that he wants to wear the Botafogo jersey. And this has not happened yet… that’s why nothing has happened. We will continue to look for new reinforcements,” said John Textor.
James, for his part, wants to assert himself as a free agent and will take a break to decide his new destiny. The Colombian press indicates that, apart from Botafogo, he has offers from the Middle East (his previous club before joining Olympiacos was Al-Rayyan SC of the Qatari league), Europe and the MLS.
