The Brazilian international Roberto Firmino committed himself this Tuesday to Al Ahli, said the Saudi club, which thus adds a new prominent name to its squad, after having recently acquired the Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who until now was a member of Chelsea.
Firmino, 31, left Liverpool after eight seasons at that English Premier League club, with which he achieved the Champions League and the Club World Cup in 2019, the Premier League in 2020 and the FA Cup in 2022 as great successes.
He arrives in Saudi football with the letter of freedom, after recently ending his contract with the ‘Reds’. Al Ahli made the signing official with a video on their social networks and the player joins the entity until 2026.
The Brazilian attacker, 55 caps with his Seleçao, will land in Jeddah and his arrival is part of the wave of hiring undertaken by various clubs in Saudi Arabia, seeking to give a leap in quality to their football and reinforce the country’s aspirations to be able to host the World Cup in the future or the Olympic Games.
The Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing for Al Nassr since January and other figures have followed in his footsteps since, notably his former French Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema, who recently joined Al Ittihad.
