On the morning of this Thursday, the Federal Police deployed “Operation Capital”, with the aim of dismantling a criminal organization that operated in the transport of contraband cigarettes in the city of Guaíra (state of Paraná), on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.
Approximately 400 federal police officers complied with 162 warrants, of which 96 are search warrants and 66 preventive detention in the municipalities of Guaíra, Terra Roxa, Iporã, Francisco Alves, Umuarama, Cafezal do Sul, Altônia in Paraná; and Balneário Camboriú/SC.
The First Federal Court of Guaíra also ordered the seizure of 31 properties and the blocking of accounts in the name of the heads of the organization.
During the 7 months of investigation, the Federal Police demonstrated that the criminal organization moved up to 750 thousand cigarette packs in a single night, which in market value corresponds to approximately R$ 3,750,000.00 (three million, seven hundred and fifty thousand real). The organization has at least 100 members, a large part made up of “scouts” (explorers) who alerted the group about the police movement in the region, having identified themselves, in addition to the leaders, pilots and other members who worked in the logistics of the operation. crime.
Investigations also revealed that the organization had co-opted military police officers working in the region, who received bribes to facilitate criminal activity, provide information on the performance of security forces, turn a blind eye to activity, or provide cover for criminals. the criminal criminals
Those investigated will answer for the practice of the crimes of smuggling, participation in a criminal organization and active and passive corruption, whose combined sentences can exceed 25 years in prison.
The name “Capital” alludes to the way criminals refer to the municipality of Altônia/PR.
