Brazilian judokas take 4 medals on the 1st day of the Lima Grand Prix

The Brazilian women’s judo delegation achieved four podiums, including a gold and silver double, at the opening of the Judo Grand Prix in Lima (Peru. In the up to 52 kilos category, Jéssica Pereira was champion on Saturday night (11) after beating Gabriela Conceição, in a 100% national final. In the 57 kg category, Jéssica Lima and Shirlen Nascimento took a bronze each. The competition runs until Monday (13), with transmission live of qualifying fights in JudoTV from 12:30 pm (Brasília time), and the finals at Team Brazil channel on YouTube from 7pm. Brazil has 24 judokas in Lima (half in each gender), including Olympic medalist athletes such as Rafaela Silva (63 kg), Daniel Cargnin, Guilherme Schmidt and William Lima. Silver at the Paris Games, Willian returns to compete after a year away from the mats. It is the largest Brazilian delegation at an international event this year.

In the fight for gold in the 52 kg, Jéssica Pereira from Rio took victory by throwing a yuko against her compatriot Gabriela Conceição, ending the contest in just over a minute.

“Very happy to have won the gold medal! This victory represents not only the result of a competition, but also a lot of dedication, overcoming and strength. I fought with my heart and gave my best at every moment”, said Jéssica in post on Instagram.

Bronze at the Budapest World Cup (Hungary) in June, Shirlen Nascimento suffered a setback in her debut in the quarterfinals against Frenchwoman Amandine Buchard (silver in Tokyo 2020 and bronze in Paris 2024). She then defeated two Israelis by ippon to secure the bronze.

The path of São Paulo Jessica Lima at the Lima Grand Prix she started with a comeback victory against the Polish Karolina Siennicka in the round of 16. Next, she beat Israeli Hili Zakroisky with ippon. In the semifinals, Jéssica was also beaten by the French Buchard, who had already defeated Shirlen Nascimento. In the fight for bronze, Jéssica beat the British Acelya Toprak.
