The Brazilian humanitarian aid arrived tonight (9th) in Ankara and from there they are going to Adana, a city in the south of Turkey, on the border with Syria, the region of the epicenter of the earthquake in magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred last Monday. 42 people embarked on the operation, including 34 firefighter specialists from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, plus medical and civil defense personnel. The team specializing in urban search and rescue must remain on site for two weeks to locate and support the victims.
Six tons of equipment were also sent to help with the searches and to support the teams during the work, and four sniffer dogs to help locate victims of the earthquake.
Local authorities estimate that Turkey and Syria already add up 16 thousand dead as a result of the earthquake.
Health
The Ministry of Health sent a load of emergency items of approximately 750kg, which will enable the care of up to 500 people for a period of three months, or 1,500 people for a month.
