The Brazilian government regretted, on the afternoon of Monday (11), the Death of the Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay in Bogota as a result of attack suffered on June 7.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it received the news “with deep regret.”
“By reiterating vehement repudiation to any form of political violence, the Brazilian government conveys sincere condolences to the senator’s family and expresses solidarity with the government and the people of Colombia.”
Attack
Uribe Turbay was a presidential candidate for Colombia and was attending a political event in Bogota two months ago, when he was shot in his head, fired by a 15-year-old teenager.
The attack mobilized public opinion From Colombia, a country marked by a long history of political violence with successive attacks over the decades against political, popular and trade union leaders.
Turbay was the grandson of Julio César Turbay, president of Colombia for the Liberal Party between 1978 and 1982.
Investigations on the attack continues. Until now Five people have already been arrested on suspicion of relationship with the crime.
