The Brazilian goalball championship came to an end this Friday (22) at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo. And the champion, in both the men’s and women’s competition, was Sesi-SP.
The title among women, the seventh in the history of Sesi-SP (after the victories in 2023, 2022, 2019, 2017, 2016 and 2013), was secured after a 9-0 victory over Icemat-MT. “It’s a great emotion to win a Brazilian Championship. Especially because we, in the Brazilian team, had a very turbulent year. We didn’t have a place for the Paris Paralympic Games until we received an invitation. Then we hit the beam again in the search for a medal. We hold our heads high and represent our team. We did our best on the court. There’s no such thing as the fact that we’ve already won many titles. Each one of them is very important”, declared player Ana Gabriely Brito.
The men’s title was Sesi-SP’s fifth in the history of the Brazilian goalball championship, after victories in 2023, 2022, 2019 and 2017. And the fifth championship was guaranteed with a 12-3 triumph over Apace-PB. “We knew the condition of their team, so we focused a lot on defense, as we knew they had a very good attack. We knew that by defending well the rest of the game would happen naturally. We made adjustments, watched their games and came up with a proposal that, thank God, worked”, declared André Dantas, scorer of seven goals in the match.
