Brazilian giant bought Las Acacias and chooses Uruguay for its expansion

One of the most important Brazilian food companies in the production of pasta and cookies acquired Alimentos Las Acaciasone of the three Uruguayan companies with the largest production of dry pasta.

This is M. Dias Branco, who, with this purchase, selected Uruguay to begin its expansion outside borders, which meant the “first international acquisition” of the Brazilianas confirmed by the purchasing company.

Alimentos Las Acacias was founded in 1952 in Montevideo by businessman Jesús Rega, and is currently run by the second generation of the family. Yes ok the company focuses, above all, on the dry pasta marketalso knew how to include other business lines over time, and its portfolio also includes sauces and cake mixes, among other products.

For its part, M. Dias Branco was founded in 1953 —a year after the Uruguayan company— and its headquarters are in Ceardá, in the northeast of the neighboring country. It has about 20 brands of different productsranging from pasta to cookies, toast and margarine. Some of them were already exported to Uruguay and to 40 other countries.

According to the Vice President of Comptrollership, Investments and Investor Relations of M. Dias Branco, Gustavo Lopes Theodozio, Alimentos Las Acacias was chosen for this first international acquisition due to brand attributes and production and distribution infrastructure..

In this sense, the executive explained: “The acquisition is in line with our strategic plan, which provides for the diversification of revenues in another currency. We want to expand Las Acacias globally and also expand the brands that we already distribute in Uruguay.”

“The proximity to the southern region of Brazil and the business environment in Uruguay were important decision factors,” said Fabio Cefaly, Director of Investor Relations and New Business at M. Dias Branco.

Also, has 17 industrial units installed in the northeast, north, southeast and south regions of Brazil. It is a company with shares traded on the Brazilian stock exchange (B3/Novo Mercado). In 2021, it reached a turnover of R$ 7.8 billion (about US$ 1.5 billion).
