With this result, Tricolor das Laranjeiras reached 15th place in the standings with 33 points. Rubro-Negro da Gávea has little chance of fighting for the title after the setback, as it remains in 4th place with 51, nine behind leader Botafogo, who still faces Criciúma in this round.
Despite winning the final victory, coach Mano Menezes’ team did not perform well in the first half, even wasting a penalty kick with Ganso. However, after the break, Colombian Jhon Arias entered the field and Fluminense improved a lot and won the victory.
In the 4th minute, Ganso received a long throw and made a brilliant pass, with his heel, to Kauã Elias, who advanced freely to the right and crossed into the area, where Lima hit it first time to open the scoring. Ten minutes later, Fluminense’s number 10 shined again, connecting with Martinelli, who crossed low to Arias, who had no trouble putting the final number on the scoreboard.
Timão’s rout
Another team that won this Thursday and moved away from Z4 was Corinthians, who beat Athletico-PR 5-2 in Itaquera to move up to 16th place with 32 points. Timão’s triumph was built on goals from Yuri Alberto, Garro, Memphis Depay, Cacá and Matheuzinho, while Erick and Nikão scored.
