Brazil was crowned this Saturday in Asunción as the undisputed king of the twelfth edition of the South American Games, as it dominated the medal table from start to finish.
With a total of 319 medals, including 133 gold, 100 silver and 86 bronze, the Brazilians looked through the rear-view mirror at Colombia, which finished second with 255, and Argentina, third with 197.
The event, which brought together some 7,000 athletes from the 15 member countries of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur), closed the curtain on its programming this Saturday with a positive part for the organization offered by Asunción.
The closing ceremony, at the end of the day, will be enlivened by local artists and will exalt the motto of this event: “The dream fulfilled.”
The XII South American Games in Asunción distributed 404 gold, 404 silver and 495 bronze medals for a total of 1,303 metals.
Swimming was the sport that gave the most awards to the South American giant of continental dimensions, as it earned him 34 golds.
Artistic gymnastics, with 10, and rhythmic gymnastics, 8, also added to the medal table.
The swimmer Giovanna Diamante, with ten medals, established herself as the most awarded competitor in the competitions, which began on October 1.
The Brazilian team far exceeded its records in the competitions of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur) in Cochamba 2018 and Santiago 2014, in which it added 204 and 258 metals, respectively.
The best Brazilian performance is still in the 2002 edition, when its athletes hung 333 medals as host.

The coffee team, which in Cochabamba 2018 was champion, this year exceeded the mark of 239 medals that it achieved in Bolivian territory. (EFE)
