The Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, assured that relations between Brazil and Venezuela, suspended since 2019 due to a decision by former President Jair Bolsonaro, have been “almost fully” restored since Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silbva assumed power on January 1.
The Brazilian foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, assured that the president of his country, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, “is ready” to try to bring positions between the government of Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition, if he were summoned for that purpose.
“The political dialogue in Venezuela is domestic, it is internal, but Brazil is ready to talk with the government and the opposition and participate in that dialogue, if called,” said the minister.

The last meeting between the Government and the Unitary Platform was in November 2022 in Mexico, but since then the dialogue has remained stagnant, although there are initiatives to resume it. One of them is promoted by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, who plans to convene an international conference in which he hopes that countries from Latin America, Europe and even the United States participate.
According to the news agency EFEVieira did not comment on this proposal in particular, but assured that Brazil, “as it has always done”, is willing to collaborate with the dialogue, which it understands as the appropriate way to resolve conflicts.
The foreign minister also assured that relations between Brazil and Venezuela, suspended since 2019 due to a decision by former President Jair Bolsonaro, have been “almost fully” restored since Lula took power on January 1.
According to Vieira, Venezuela is a country with which Brazil has a historical relationship, which became “very important” in the commercial sphere, and stressed that Lula decided that his government must maintain ties “with all the countries of the world,” without account for ideologies or political differences.
