Brazil says goodbye to one of its greatest musical geniuses. The composer and multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal-undisputed reference of Brazilian and world music- died at the age of 89leaving a legacy that crosses generations and borders.
Given the news, demonstrations of regret took over social networks, coming from artists, authorities and admirers who recognize in Hermeto a unique, unclassifiable and revolutionary figure.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva paid an emotional tribute on social networks:
Brazilian music and culture owe a lot of Hermeto Pascoal, which left us this Saturday, the 13th, at the age of 89. The talent and tireless creativity of this Arapiraca Alagoas consecrated him internationally, and influenced generations of musicians from around the world.

The Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, also spoke, publishing a photo embraced with the musician and describing him as “a generous master who turned Brazilian music into sound alchemy.”
Among the artists who honored Hermeto, Caetano Veloso recorded a video on your account from Instagram. In the record, he remembered songs dedicated to the master and talked about his coexistence with him:
“Hermeto is the greatness of music in Brazil, one of the highest points in music history in Brazil and that exposed himself to the world with great clarity and strength. I met him and put his name in two songs of mine, at least, and had public discussion with him. But what matters is his musical greatness,” said Caetano, respectfully.
The singer Zélia Duncan called Hermeto “absolute master” and defined him as “the favorite son of the goddess music”, in clear reverence for her intuitive and inventive genius.
