Formal employment creation fell in June. According to data released by the General Register of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED), of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, 166,621 jobs with a formal contract were opened last month. The indicator measures the difference between hiring and layoffs.
Job creation fell 19.2% over the same month last year. In June 2024, 206,310 jobs had been created, in the adjustment data, which consider statements delivered to the late employers. Compared to June, the volume was the smallest since 2023when 155,704 vacancies were opened. The comparison considers the current methodology of Caged, which began in 2020.
In the first six months of the year, 1,222,591 vacancies were opened. This result is 6.8% lower than in the same period last year. The comparison considers the data with adjustments, when the Ministry of Labor registers declarations delivered late by employers and rectifies data from previous months.
From January to June last year, 1,311,751 formal jobs were created. The change in Caged methodology does not make comparison with years prior to 2020.
Sectors
In the division by branches of activity, all five sectors surveyed created formal jobs in June.
The statistics were led by the services, with the opening of 77,057 posts, followed by trade, with 32,938 more posts. Driven by the crop, agriculture comes third, with the creation of 25,833 jobs.
Fourth is the industry (transformation, extraction and other types), with the creation of 20,105 jobs. Finally, the employment level rose in construction, with the opening of 10,665 posts.
Highlights
In services, job creation was pulled by the information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative segment, with the opening of 41,477 formal posts. The category of Public Administration, Defense and Social Security, Education, Human Health and Social Services opened 12,821 vacancies.
In industry, the positive prominence went to the transformation industry, which hired 17,421 more workers than it fired. Secondly, was the segment of water, sewage, waste management activities and decontamination, which opened 1,218 vacancies.
Caged statistics from 2020 do not detail hiring and layoffs by trade segments. The previous historical series separated the data from wholesale and retailer trade.
Regions
All five Brazilian regions created jobs with a portfolio signed in June. The Southeast led the opening of vacancies, with 76,332 more posts, followed by the Northeast, with 36,405 posts. Then comes the Midwest, with 23,876 stations, with the help of the crop. The south opened 18,358 jobs, and the North created 11,683 formal vacancies last month.
In the division by federation units, 26 of the 27 registered positive balance. The highlights in job creation were São Paulo (+40,089 posts); Rio de Janeiro (+24,228) and Minas Gerais (+15.363). The only state that closed vacancies was Espírito Santo, with the extinction of 3,348 posts, especially in the coffee sector.
