Venezuelans
In December last year 5,837 Venezuelans entered the country. The main entry point is Pacaraima, in Roraima. In the city and in Boa Vista, services are offered to Operation Welcome, a humanitarian response that supports the voluntary, secure and organized displacement of refugees and migrant populations.
According to data from the operation, Venezuelans who entered Brazil currently live in 1,026 municipalities in all regions of the country. The cities of Curitiba and Manaus are the ones that add up to the highest number of migrants welcomed by the operation.
In late January this year, the actions of the operation were suspended after the International Organization for Migration (IM), arm of the United Nations (UN) to meet migrants and refugees, inform the blockade of the transfer of funds by 90 days determined by US President Donald Trump on the 26th.
The next day, the federal government met with representatives of the organization to discuss the impact of the suspension of activities carried out by the entity under the operation. At the time, it was defined that the Government would perform the actions of OIM.
“Brazilian authorities are mobilized and are still dealing with to reduce the impacts of the absence of OIM teams on logistics operation and shelter management. Among the emergency actions are the relocation of employees in health, social assistance, the Federal Police and defense to maintain, on emergency, the essential activities, ”said the MJSP in a statement.
According to the ministry, the large volume of people migrating from Venezuela indicates the need for the “federal government to continue policies aimed at that country’s humanitarian crisis”.
