The Ministry of Health released this Wednesday (19) a new bulletin on methanol poisoning after drinking alcoholic beverages. The number of deaths rose to 16 across the country. There are now 97 registered cases, of which 62 are confirmed and 35 are under investigation. Overall, 772 suspicions were discarded.
São Paulo is the most affected state, with 48 confirmed cases, five of which are under investigation. Nine deaths are from the state. 511 reports of poisoning were discarded by São Paulo authorities.
The other deaths are three in Paraná, three in Pernambuco and one in Mato Grosso.
There are another 10 deaths under analysis, with five in São Paulo, four in Pernambuco and one in Minas Gerais. More than 50 death notifications have already been discarded.
Methanol poisonings were also confirmed in other states: six in Paraná, five in Pernambuco, two in Mato Grosso and one in Rio Grande do Sul.
Suspected cases are investigated in Pernambuco (12), Piauí (5), Mato Grosso (6), Paraná (2), Bahia (2), Minas Gerais (1) and Tocantins (1).
