Closed yesterday (22), in Normandy, France, the ISF Gymnasiade 2022 school Olympics had the historic participation of the Brazilian delegation both in the number of athletes – there were 230 young people between 16 and 18 years old – and in the general medal table – where Brazil was vice-champion, with 45 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze.
The Brazilian delegation participated in competitions in 20 modalities. According to data from the Ministry of Citizenship, which allocated R$ 5.5 million for young athletes to participate in the event, representatives from 22 states were selected for the games.
“Arriving here in France and seeing a delegation of this size, with 230 athletes and parathletes, plus the coaching staff, knowing that our grassroots sport, on the school platform, has been recovered, resurfaced, is very gratifying”, said the Minister of Citizenship, Ronaldo Bento, who was present at the closing ceremony of the Gymnasiade.
Fairplay Trophy
In addition to second place in the overall table and dozens of medals, the young Brazilians were awarded the Fairplay Trophy, intended for the delegation that most captivated the attention of participants and event organizers. “Brazil, in addition to being very strong in sports, as shown by our expressive result, is also the most beloved. This means that we are fulfilling the role of preaching peace, unity, tolerance, and contributing to the formation of citizenship of these young people and for the construction of a better world”, said the president of the Brazilian Confederation of School Sports (CBDE), Antônio Hora Filho.
