President Jair Bolsonaro said this Thursday (20) that Petrobras can collaborate in the exploration of oil reserves in Suriname. The president arrived in the morning in Paramaribo, capital of the neighboring country, for an official visit.
“We have to offer the country our expertise in oil prospecting and that’s why we brought in the Minister of Mines and Energy. I salute and thank you for what we talked about a little while ago, regarding the possible priority for the country, through Petrobras, to collaborate in oil and gas prospecting”, said Bolsonaro, during a joint press statement alongside the president of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi. The government of Suriname has recently discovered oil and gas reserves and is now working to ensure the exploitation of the fuels.
The two presidents signed a joint statement which details the main agreements and treaties signed during the visit. In this regard, the Surinamese head of state mentioned a long bilateral partnership between the nations and highlighted the main points discussed during the meeting.
“I am convinced that our cooperation in the future in various areas, including trade, energy investments, including oil and gas, security, defense, as well as immigration and consular matters, will certainly yield concrete results in mutual benefit,” Santokhi said.
