The Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE), a non-profit civil association responsible for electricity trading in the country, launched this Tuesday (29), in the capital of São Paulo, the first Brazilian platform that will centralize the certification of renewable energy .
According to CCEE, the service will concentrate data from companies and certifying entities in the country and will have the capacity, based on this information, to track the origin of the energy used. One of the platform’s functions will be to avoid double certification of the same energy.
The Chamber estimates that around 93% of the electricity produced in Brazil already comes from sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass plants. In 2021, according to CCEE, less than 2% of this renewable energy was certified. In 2022, the percentage increased to 4% and, in 2023, it rose to 6.9%. According to Chamber projections, this result could reach up to 50%.
“We will contribute to attracting investors, expanding business and generating jobs, in addition to enhancing the insertion of Brazilian green products into the international market”, highlighted the president of the CCEE Board of Directors, Alexandre Ramos.
The National Secretary of Electric Energy of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Gentil Sá, highlighted that the tool will facilitate the country’s position at the forefront of the green economy.
“It’s the trust that the energy sector needs. We will centralize data and make it possible to track the origin of the energy used as a basis for issuing certificates. Certification is a fundamental step for this valuation. This adds a lot of international credibility to the green energy industry Brazil,” said Gentil.
