The Federative Republic of Brazil was consolidated as the main buyer of the urea Bolivian in the first quarter of this administration. According to the president of the state oil company YPFB, Armin Dorgathen, 77% of the fertilizer produced at the ‘Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz’ Ammonia and Urea Plant was destined for that neighboring country.
According to Dorgathen, in the cited period, 81,933 metric tons of fertilizer produced by YPFB were delivered to consumer markets. Of that amount, 16,286 tons were destined to supply the domestic market and 65,647 tons were destined for export markets.
“20% of this amount was destined to supply the domestic market. The surplus production of the fertilizer was destined for Brazil (main buyer with a volume greater than 63,300 metric tons), Peru, Paraguay and Argentina, countries that demand Bolivian urea”, said the president of YPFB.
The commercialization of granulated urea destined for the internal and external markets, allowed the state oil company to invoice a value greater than $us 31.9 million from January to March of this year. Dorgathen assured that the petrochemical complex located in the town of Bulo Bulo (Cochabamba) has one of the best technologies in Latin America, condition that allows Bolivia to aim to be a country that contributes with a competitive fertilizer to agriculture and contributes to food security in the region.
In Bolivia, sales were recorded to various clients between producers and wholesale distributors, as well as public entities such as the Food Production Support Company (Emapa) and the Strategic Company for the Production of Fertilizers and Fertilizers (Eepaf).
