Brazil is at the forefront of telecommunications, says Anatel

Technology is increasingly present in people’s lives and connectivity is already part of everyday life. In this context, the arrival of 5G in Brazil should generate impacts in several sectors, whether private, public or the corporate world. Connected cars, smart cities, greater security, industrial and agricultural automation and other technology applications drive innovation and economic competitiveness in Brazil.Brazil is at the forefront of telecommunications, says Anatel

In the week that the 5G signal reached all Brazilian capitals, the adviser of the National Telecommunications Agency, Moisés Queiroz, spoke about the impacts of technology in an interview with the program Brazil on the agenda which airs this Sunday (9), on TV Brazil, at 10:30 pm. “We cannot talk about development without communication and 5G brings today the most modern in the world in mobile technology”, he said.

During the interview, Anatel’s advisor recalled the 5G auction held in November 2021. According to him, the Brazilian auction model was a worldwide case. “Brazil is at the forefront of telecommunications in the world. Also because the model of our auction was the non-collection model, it was a model of comprehensive commitments, this will provide our country with greater connectivity, which many other countries lack. The Brazilian auction model was a worldwide case of 5G and has been praised in other countries,” he explained.

According to information from the Ministry of Communications, of the BRL 47 billion raised in the 5G auction, BRL 5 billion went into government coffers and BRL 42 billion will be invested in infrastructure over the next eight years. The expectation is that with 5G businesses will be created in several areas, such as artificial intelligence, data processing, industry, logistics, transport, health, education and agribusiness, among others. That’s because the speed of the technology is 100 times higher than 4G technology and has a faster response between a command and the execution of the action.

In addition, the service is more sustainable. “5G technology is more stable, it is a technology that is cheaper for operators to transmit than 4G, it uses less energy”, explains Moisés Queiroz.

Last Thursday (6), five capitals in the North Region began to have a 5G signal being transmitted by the operators’ antennas. Belém (PA), Macapá (AP), Manaus (AM), Porto Velho (RO) and Rio Branco (AC) have the fifth generation of technology and, as a result, the service is now available to all 27 capitals of the country. country. Brasilia was the first to activate 5G. Gradually, the other capitals released the signal.

According to Anatel, the service available in the 27 federative units reaches 24% of the Brazilian population and has the potential to reach 50 million people. “As this progresses, I imagine that in the capitals where the signal was implemented, two years from now, we will feel the difference”, estimated the advisor about the impacts of 5G coverage for the routine of technology users.

According to MCom, 5,275 standalone 5G antennas are active, also known as “pure” 5G because it uses a completely new infrastructure dedicated to technology, without taking advantage of the existing structure for 4G. This amount is double the minimum (2,528) established in the radio frequency auction, which guarantees greater coverage of the signal in the neighborhoods. By 2025, the number of stations should reach 6,370, according to the commitment made by the companies that won the national lots in the 5G auction.
