Brazil has Iran as a rival in the men’s volleyball World Cup round of 16

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has set the times for the round of 16 clashes of the men’s World Championship in the sport, held in Slovenia and Poland. Brazil will face Iran next Tuesday (6), at 16:00 (Brasília time), in the Polish city of Gliwice.Brazil has Iran as a rival in the men's volleyball World Cup round of 16

The match was defined based on the results of the first phase. The Brazilian team led Group A, with three wins in three matches and two sets lost, having the fifth best overall campaign. The Iranians, who were second in Group F, had the 12th performance among the 16 classified. Whoever advances takes the winner of Serbia and Argentina, who also play next Tuesday, in Gliwice, but at 12:30.

The retrospect is favorable to the Brazilians against the Iranians. In 18 matches, there are 15 wins and three losses. The last game was in this year’s Nations League, in Sofia (Bulgaria), with a green and yellow triumph by three sets to zero (30/28, 25/23 and 25/19). Pointer Lucarelli, with 15 points, was the highlight of the team led by Renan dal Zotto at the time.

The World Cup knockout starts this Saturday (3), with Slovenia playing at home against Germany, in Ljubljana, at 12:30. Later, at 4:15 pm, in the same place, there’s Italy and Cuba. On Sunday (4), there are two more games, both in Gliwice. At 12:30, Turkey faces the United States. Then, at 4 pm, host Poland takes on Tunisia. On Monday (5), the tournament returns to Ljubljana, with the Netherlands and Ukraine dueling at 12:30 and France and Japan at 16:00.

Brazil is a three-time world volleyball champion among men and has been present in the last five finals, lifting the cup in 2002 (beating Russia), 2006 (Poland) and 2010 (Cuba), and taking the runner-up in 2014 and 2018 ( both with defeat for the Poles). If it wins the tetra, the country would isolate itself as the biggest winner in activity and second in history, behind only the extinct Soviet Union, owner of six trophies.
