The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) released today (15) the number of voters eligible to vote in the October election this year. According to the TSE, 156.4 million people will be able to go to the polls on October 2 to choose the president and vice president of the Republic, governors and vice governors, as well as senators, federal, state and district deputies.
In the event of a second round for the presidential race and for state governments, the election will take place on October 30th.
Information from the electoral register shows that most of the electorate is made up of women — there are 82.3 million voters, a number equivalent to 52.65% of the total. Men are 74 million and correspond to 47.33%.
With 22.16% of the total number of voters, the state of São Paulo is the largest electoral college in the country. According to TSE statistics, for every five Brazilian voters, one is in the state.
Minas Gerais has the second largest electoral college, with 10.41% of the total, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 8.2%.
The number of young people between the ages of 16 and 17 who will be able to vote has increased, from 1.4 million in the 2018 election to 2.1 million this year.
The electorate over 70 also increased, from 12 million to 14 million between the two elections.
There was also a change in the level of education of the majority of the electorate. This year, 41.1 million (26.31% of the total) reported having completed high school. In previous general elections, held in 2014 and 2018, the majority were people with incomplete primary education.
The Brazilian electorate grew 6.21% compared to the 2018 election, when the total number of people eligible to vote was 147.3 million.
