Data released by the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged), of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, indicate that 213,002 formal jobs were opened in September. The indicator measures the difference between hiring and firing.
Job creation fell 15.6% compared to the same month last year, pressured by high interest rates and the economic slowdown. In September 2024, 252,237 jobs had been created, in adjusted data, which considers declarations submitted late by employers.
In relation to the months of September, the total only exceeds that of September 2023, when 204,720 vacancies were created.
In August, the country had closed with a positive balance of 147,358 jobs.

Sectors
In the division by branches of activity, all five sectors surveyed created formal jobs in September.
- Services: 106,606 positions
- Industry (processing, extraction and other types): 43,095
- Business: 36,280.
- Civil construction: 23,855
- Agriculture: 3,167.
Highlights
In services, job creation was driven by the information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities segment, with the opening of 52,873 formal positions. The category of public administration, defense and social security, education, human health and social services opened 16,985 vacancies.
In industry, the positive highlight was the manufacturing industry, which hired 39,305 more workers than it fired. In second place was the water, sewage, waste management and decontamination activities segment, which opened 2,120 vacancies. The extractive industry opened 841 vacancies in September
Regions and states
All five regions registered formal vacancies in September.

When dividing by Federation units, all registered a positive balance. The highlights in job creation were São Paulo (+49,052 jobs); Rio de Janeiro (+16,009) and Pernambuco (+15,602).
The lowest balances of job creation were recorded in Acre (+845 jobs); Amapá (+735) and Roraima (+295).

Of January to Septemberthe Caged recorded the accumulation of formal vacancies:
- 1,716,600 (9 months of 2025)
- 1,995,164 (9 months of 2024)
The data brings adjustments, when the Ministry of Labor records declarations submitted after the deadline by employers and rectifies data from previous months.
