Brazil created more than 235 thousand new jobs in August

Brazil increased the number of jobs with a formal contract by 232,513 in the month of August, a number 0.49% higher than that observed in the previous month. In the year to date, the period between January and August, 1,726,489 new vacancies have already been created. The data is contained in the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Novo Caged), released this Friday (27) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.Brazil created more than 235 thousand new jobs in August

Looking at the last 12 months (the period between September 2023 and August 2024), the balance of jobs is positive, with the creation of 1,790,541 new vacancies. “As a result, the stock, which is the total number of active CLT bonds, totaled 47,243,764 bonds, representing a variation of +0.49% compared to the previous month,” informed the ministry.

Acting Minister of Labor and Employment, Francisco Macena highlighted that the good news is that “not only the five large economic groups, but the 27 federative units showed important growth”.

The highlight of August was the Services sector, which created 118,364 jobs in August. Year-to-date, the positive balance reached 916,369 new jobs. The industry was responsible for the creation of 51,634 new jobs in August, with emphasis on the manufacturing industry (50,915 jobs). Year to date, this sector already has 343,924 new jobs.

Criticism of the BC

“The industry’s total already represents 90% of all jobs that were created last year. This, for us, is a very important indicator as it shows the resumption of economic development and the prospect of more sustainable development, despite the Central Bank, those self-absorbed people, still working, in our opinion, from a perspective that is contrary to the economic development of the country. country, increasing the cost of public debt and failing to encourage investments in industry and the economy”, argued Macena, highlighting that the BC needs to take into account, in the analyzes it usually presents, that “the country’s development perspective goes beyond political monetary”.

The commerce sector generated 47,761 new formal jobs in August; and 169,868 in the year to date. Civil construction created 13,372 jobs in the month and 213,643 between January and August. Agriculture generated 1,401 new formal jobs in August; and 82,732 in 2024.

“I want to draw attention to the fourth largest job generator [em agosto]which was civil construction. In our opinion, we are beginning to see the results of the public investments of the New PAC [Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento] in housing. Mainly, in financing resources through FGTS Minha Casa Minha Vida in the real estate market. Our expectation is that this will be increasingly encouraged”, explained the minister.

Regions and states

In the comparison between the country’s regions, the Southeast generated 841,907 jobs throughout 2024. The South generated 309,140 new formal jobs; the Northeast registered an additional 257,925 vacancies; the Midwest, 187,471; and the North, 104,773 positions.

“We believe that in the coming months we will also continue this growing curve and that we will close the year even with the seasonality of December coming very close to, or even not reaching, the mark of 2 million new formalized workers”, said the acting minister.

“São Paulo is driving growth, with 60,770 [novos postos de trabalho]. Rio de Janeiro, 18,660 stations; Pernambuco with 18,112; and what we have always highlighted here: the importance of the resumption of jobs also in Rio Grande do Sul, which presented another 10,413 jobs, consolidating a resumption that has been going on since July”, said the minister.

He added that the numbers show a vigorous recovery in the job market in Rio Grande do Sul, after the rains and floods that devastated the state. “If we take the accumulated figures here from this period as well, we will realize that Rio Grande do Sul recovered half of the jobs that were lost due to the catastrophe that happened there.”

Gender, age group and income

Also according to Novo Caged, of the total number of new vacancies created in August, 119,317 were occupied by women and 113,196 by men. Regarding age group, the highest balance was observed among workers aged between 18 and 24 years old (126,914 new jobs).

Workers with completed secondary education also recorded the highest balance (154,057). Regarding race/color, the majority of jobs were created for mixed race people, with a balance of 204,407 new jobs in the month.

The minister also highlighted the impact of this scenario on the average salary of new hires. “The real average salary for admission in August was R$2,156.86. A reduction of R$7.54 compared to the July value. On the other hand, if we consider typical workers [modelo tradicional, regido pela CLT]the real admission salary was R$2,186.69, which is an increase of 1.4%”.

“Employment and economic activity continue to grow in the country. We will continue working on the federal government’s goal of an investment policy in all sectors. We believe that this is the virtuous movement possible, so that we can provide greater development and better income distribution”, added Macena.
