Brazil breaks record for international tourist arrivals

Brazil broke the record for international tourists visiting the country, according to the Ministry of Tourism. In total, more than 6.621 million travelers chose Brazilian destinations for leisure or business trips. The number surpasses the year 2018, which was the best value in the historical series, which started in 1970, with the visit of 6,621,376 foreigners.Brazil breaks record for international tourist arrivals

The National Tourism Plan (PNT) expects to reach 8.1 million international tourists in the next three years.

“We have invested in improving Brazil’s tourist infrastructure, with works that go from North to South, we have also supported the sector by releasing resources, through Fungetur [Fundo Geral do Turismo]which help to structure the entire chain, which is better prepared to receive these tourists. In addition, of course, to promoting our destinations at major international events, showing the world the best that Brazil has to offer”, said the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, as disclosed by the ministry.

The ministry highlights that the result surpasses important years in the reception of tourists, such as 2014, when the country hosted the FIFA World Cup and in 2016, the year of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Together, the two years total 12.9 million landings in the country.

The federal government has been working on different fronts with the aim of attracting international tourists. In December 2023, the first Office of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in the Americas and the Caribbean was opened in Rio de Janeiro.

“To reinforce the arrival of these tourists, MTur, in partnership with Embratur, once again took part in large and strategic international events promoting Brazilian destinations. The action involves the dissemination of the ‘Brazil Brand’, an important initiative to rebuild the country’s image abroad – now duly committed to sustainability, diversity and inclusion in the tourism sector.”

Brazil launched the brand “Visit South America: one place, several worlds”, a partnership with Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile to seek to promote and position destinations in these countries internationally, focusing on natural, gastronomic and hospitality attractions.
