Brazil broke record in opening small businesses in the first three months of this year, with more than 1.4 million records. THES Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEIs) reached 78% of the new national registrations of the legal entity (CNPJs).
The data are from the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), and indicate a 35% increase in the number of MEIs compared to the same period of 2024, In addition to a 28% growth in micro and small businesses.
According to the research, the expansion of formalized entrepreneurship is accompanied by government measures aimed at simplification, incentive, innovation and expansion of access to credit for small businesses.
In March this year, the service sector obtained the best performance, with 63.7% of the total of small open businesses, followed by trade and transformation industry.
In the clipping by regions, the Sebrae survey points out that Southeast, South and Northeast lead the accumulated opening of small businesses, being Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro in the early positions between the states.

According to the study, the country has 47 million people ahead of some formal or informal business. Among the factors justifying the indicator is the increase in the rate of established entrepreneurs, those over 3 years of operation, which jumped from 8.7% in 2020 to 13.2% last year.
With the result of 2024, Brazil has advanced two positions – from eighth to Friday – in the ranking of countries with the highest rate of established entrepreneurs, in front of countries such as United Kingdom, Italy and the United States.
