A strong outbreak of coronavirus in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, due to the Omicron variant, caused the total collapse of pediatric intensive care units, three days after the death of a baby while waiting to be treated.
The local portal InfoSaúde, which collects data from medical centers, reported that 100% of the intensive care rooms for children affected by coronavirus were occupied this Thursday in public and private hospitals of the federal capital.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the Government announced the opening of more rooms after the death of a 1-year-old and 4-month-old baby occurred this Monday while waiting to be admitted to an intensive care room at the East Regional Hospital.
The Ministry of Health reported that the baby, who tested positive, “was admitted with suspected pneumonia, then the condition worsened and he was sent to stand in line to get an intensive care bed, but at night Monday he went into cardiac arrest” and died.
