Branches and digital: Santander’s plan to grow in Mexico

Branches and digital: Santander's plan to grow in Mexico

“Doubling the size of the bank in five or six years sounds somewhat achievable, but that is what Héctor Grisi did during his management, so we are going to try to maintain that growth rate, we are very committed to digital investment and to be the bank that best serves customers,” said the bank’s general director, Felipe García Ascencio, on Thursday.

The banker stressed that Mexico is one of the most important countries given the conditions it offers as the second largest economy in Latin America and the United States’ main trading partner.

The bank does not plan to close branches in the coming years and will bet on competing with banks such as Banregio or Banorte, opening its own digital bank.

The license is expected to be given in the first months of 2023.

Santander’s global CEO, Héctor Grisi, said that they will seek to be an omnichannel bank that offers efficient service both digitally and physically: “We want to become a digital bank with branches, service must be omnichannel.”
