“This is a wonderful experience and opportunity. We can see our children in contact with horses and seeing how they develop different skills. I have seen my son very happy who, little by little, has been trusting the horse and already has two friends. For me, this experience means advancement, inclusion for him and for us as a family. We are really very grateful ”.
With these words, Jessica Arroyo, mom of Agustin age 6, assesses the Intervention program in Hippotherapy -in which his son participates-, promoted by the Municipality of Florida, hand in hand with the Directorate of Education of the Florida Municipal Corporation (Comudef).
“For reasons like these, this project was born. It is a necessity to make visible and work with students at a deeper level to help them relate in a better way, promote their self-esteem and thus have a better quality of life “, said the mayor of Florida, Rodolfo Carter.
Permanent educational needs
On November 2, the intervention project in hippotherapy promoted by the municipality of La Florida. A staging that benefits 160 boys and girls (pre-kindergarten and basic fifth) of the commune with permanent educational needs. This intervention program is free and takes place at the Lo Cañas Equestrian Club.
In practice, they are 20 colleges and high schools of the Florida Municipal Corporation, those who participate in this instance and who have School Integration Programs (PIE). This action complements the work already carried out by the establishments in this area in terms of supporting the rehabilitation of students.
Insertion strategy
Students hold sessions from Monday to Friday and are accompanied by their mother, father or guardian. “This support is essential, since it allows them to be linked with this type of intervention and, in addition, they receive strategies to work with the children at home. Thus, the self-esteem of the students is strengthened, being able to promote a better social insertion of our students”, Reported Sandra Nunez, community coordinator psychologist of the Intervention program.
Hippotherapy is based on the development of all motor aspects of children. Catherine Arancibia, executive coordinator of the Lo Cañas Equestrian Club, pointed out that “Through this work the physical, cognitive, sensory and emotional part is stimulated, giving them tools so that they can develop in an integral way in their daily life”.
