The Cuban boxing team named Domadores is already training in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes to make its professional debut next Friday (May 20), after more than 60 years appearing only at the amateur level, official media on the island report.

This unprecedented fact, expected by many, has created expectations in the Mexican fans, especially since this is one of the best countries in the world in the professional boxingl, with very stellar figures in each era, according to a office from the agency Latin Press (PL) dated in the capital of Mexico.

Thus, fans will see Cuban boxers such as the Olympic champions fight with local rivals. Julius Caesar the CrossRoniel Iglesias, Arlen López and Lázaro Álvarez, together with the universal monarch Yoenlis Feliciano, and the world bronze medalist Osvel Caballero.

PL recalls that these are the first Cuban amateurs to fight on a rented circuit, after the National Boxing Federation gave the green light to their professional participation last April.

The federation reported then that it had signed a “representation contract” with the Mexican company Golden Ring Promotions to hold these fights, the first professional competitions for boxers residing on the island since 1962, the news agency said.

Two-time Olympic champion La Cruz will have as his opponent the Colombian cruiser Deivis Cásseres in the ring that will be installed in the Palenque of the San Marcos Fair, to celebrate the poster of six fights with the same number of agreed rounds. He will be the only non-Mexican who will face the Antillean squad since the others are fighters from the yard.

Initially, the star Andy Cruz, also an Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, was included in the group, but at the last minute he was replaced on the payroll by Caballero, by “decision of the technical group,” according to a brief published note by specialized website Hitwhich has generated many concerns and theories among the fans on this subject.

Before the upcoming presentation in Mexico, Cuban amateur boxers had entered since 2014 in competitions at the semi-professional level of the World Series of Boxing (WSB)where the Domadores de Cuba won three of the five editions in which they participated, the last in 2018, recalls PL.

Boxing: Tamers from Cuba will officially debut as professionals

According to the program announced by the organizers shortly after the arrival of the Cubans in Mexico last Sunday, Caballero will have as his rival in the super feather category the local Joshman Reyes, while the super lightweight division, Lázaro Álvarez will face the host Francisco Market.

The super welterweight Roniel Iglesias will find the Mexican Brandon Pérez in the opposite corner, the opponent of the super middleweight Yoenlis Hernández (CUB) will be the local Octavio; and in a semi-complete duel, Arlen López will cross gloves with the host Fernando Galván.

The note adds that the fight of the semi-complete category and 10 rounds between the Venezuelan José “Bolivita” Uzcategui and the local Felipe “Indio” Romero was incorporated into the Palenque card.

The weigh-in of the fighters is scheduled for the day before the fights, so the boxers will have to follow their diet rigorously. The traditional press conference is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, the source points out.

According to PL, the head coach of the Cuban squad, Rolando Acebal, expressed that his Tamers are in a position to achieve a great result. Likewise, he affirmed that they have taken into account the demands related to the extension of the combats and other characteristics of professional boxing.
