After the government declared a water emergency in Montevideo and the metropolitan area and announced the tax exemption for bottled water as one of the strategies to mitigate the situation, 86% of businesses in the affected area lowered prices in all formats of this productaccording to the latest data collected by Radar Scanntech.
In this line, a price decrease of 28% was observed for drums, 20% for 2.5-liter bottles and 24% for 2.25-liter containers. In this way, the average price per liter was positioned at $15, $18 and $23, respectively.

In June, the sale of water in Montevideo and Canelones multiplied by 3.6 compared to the same month of the previous year. The greatest growth occurred in the still water segment, whose sales volume increased by 573% and was boosted by the drop in prices.
At the same time the number of brands sold in stores increased during May and June. In this period, 37% of stores sold six or more brands of water, which represents 12% more than in April and 15% more than in June of the previous year.
The Scanntech Radar is satisfied with the data of 1,700 points of sale of the almost 6,000 that currently have their system in Uruguay. Information from the Ta-Ta and El Dorado chains is included, as well as a high representation of independent supermarkets and self-service stores that constitute approximately 90% of the turnover of this channel.
