At the same time, During May, 30% more budget was allocated to the purchase of water by Uruguayan consumers, added the report from the payment software company. In 38% of the purchases that month, consumers took two units or more of water, thus doubling the values for the month of April.
Regarding the year-on-year increase in the purchase of bottled water, May 2023 closed with a growth of 224% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The greatest growth was observed in still bottled water, which practically multiplied by six —precisely 5.7— if the consumption of May of this year is compared with that of May 2022. Drums, meanwhile, were the second recipient to multiply their year-on-year sales. The consumption of water under this presentation is tripled. In third place was bottled sparkling water, whose consumption also more than doubled in that period.
