With six rounds remaining until the end of the competition, Alvinegro occupies first place in the table with 67 points (three ahead of second-placed Palmeiras, who beat Grêmio 1-0 in this round). This fat was achieved in the last round, in which General Severiano’s team beat Vasco 3-0 and Verdão stumbled against Corinthians (with a 2-0 defeat).
Despite the considerable advantage he achieved in the final phase of the competition, Portuguese coach Artur Jorge states that there is still a way to go until a possible victory in the Brazilian Championship: “We still have six Brasileiro games, plus a Libertadores final to play. Despite such a complicated situation, coach Bernardo Franco stated, after the goalless draw with Bragantino, that his players continue to believe in escaping relegation to Series B: “It’s a group aware of reality, which knows what needs to improve. . Everyone has their share [de responsabilidade]no one will hide. We continue working, believing and proving that we will fight until the end.”
To measure strength with the leader of the Brazilian Championship, Cuiabá will not be able to count on midfielder Fernando Sobral, suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards, nor on striker Gustavo Sauer, who belongs to Botafogo.
