In the next stage of the competition, Alvinegro de General Severiano will face whoever wins between São Paulo and Nacional (Uruguay), who will face each other from 7 pm (Brasília time) next Thursday (22) after drawing 0-0 in the first leg.
To qualify, Botafogo showed great composure to deal with an adverse atmosphere created by the Palmeiras fans, who packed the Allianz Parque to put on a beautiful party. However, the team led by Portuguese coach Artur Jorge showed composure to put a lot of pressure on Abel Ferreira’s team, who only managed to take control of the match in the final minutes of the first half.
After the break, Palmeiras, who needed goals to stay alive in the competition, started to attack more, creating spaces for the Alvinegro, who proved to be lethal. First in the 10th minute, when Matheus Martins won a dispute with Vitor Reis and passed to Savarino, who, from inside the area, rolled the ball to Igor Jesus, who only had to score to open the scoring.

Seven minutes later, Matheus Martins started another great move, with a deep pass to Savarino, who invaded the area before hitting it hard to extend the lead. In the 40th minute, Argentine Flaco López scored with a header to reduce the deficit and motivate the São Paulo team once again. Three minutes later, Palmeiras returned to the match once again, managing to equalize the score with Rony.
With that, Alviverde only had to score once more to take the match to a penalty shootout. And this goal was scored in the 51st minute by defender Gustavo Gómez, but the play was disallowed by the referee, with the help of VAR (video assistant referee), because the Paraguayan defender touched the ball with his hand before the shot was taken.
In the last play of the game, in the 54th minute, the home team even managed to hit the post with a free kick from Gabriel Menino, but the final classification remained with Botafogo.
