Botafogo took the field against Coritiba, this Saturday (17), at Nilton Santos Stadium, experiencing an uncomfortable fast of three games without scoring at home. It lasted for almost 75 minutes, but finally ended with a happy ending: a 2-0 victory in the 27th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Victor Cuesta and Tiquinho Soares scored the alvinegro goals, which allowed the team from Rio to reach 34 points. Glorioso momentarily overtook Bragantino and Santos, moving up to 10th place in the table. Coxa, on the other hand, is still worried about relegation, since now Avaí, the first team in the Z4, has the same 28 points as the club from Paraná. If Cuiabá wins this Sunday (18) against their great rival, Athletico-PR, Coritiba will close the round among the last four.

This Saturday (17), the little more than 15 thousand fans present saw a warm first half, just a little warmer than the icy night in Rio de Janeiro. Júnior Santos was responsible for the most dangerous play. He made a good individual play on the right and kicked with his left leg. Goalkeeper Gabriel deflected and then the ball hit the post. On the rebound, Jeffinho finished wide.
Coritiba had a good opportunity, but Fabrício Daniel played it out on the 26th minute of Gatito Fernández’s departure.
In the second half, the game heated up a lot. Before the tenth minute, Coxa created two good opportunities, first with Alef Manga’s kick and later with Fabrício Daniel’s submission, but Gatito flattened both.
Botafogo, in turn, hit two balls on the post in a three-minute interval. At nine minutes, Júnior Santos, again, finished in a cross, from the right and stopped on the post. At twelve, Victor Sá’s header met the same fate.

In the final stretch, when the crowd was already more than impatient with another goalless night, Botafogo found victory in two practically consecutive bids. At 29, Marçal took a free-kick in the area and Victor Cuesta appeared at the first post to complete with a header and open the score, finally ending the fast of Botafogo.
At 32, Eduardo took advantage of Luciano Castán’s blunder, stole the ball and advanced to the area. There, he noticed the arrival of Tiquinho Soares and just rolled for the striker to score his first goal for Botafogo.
The 2-0 victory represents the third game without defeat for Alvinegro, which now breathes a little more relieved with the distance to the Z-4 extended to six points. The team’s next duel is against Goiás, away from home, only on the 28th. On the same date, Coritiba receives Ceará at Couto Pereira.
