Botafogo qualified for the semi-finals on Wednesday of the 2024 Copa Libertadores by eliminating Sao Paulo on penalties 5-4 in the return match, played at the Morumbi stadium, in the city of São Paulo.
The Argentine Thiago Almada put ‘Fogao’ ahead in the 15th minute, although the also Argentine Jonathan Calleri, with a great header, tied the score for the home team in the 87th minute.
In the penalty shootout, Calleri and Rodrigo Nestor failed the first and sixth shots for Sao Paulo, against a Botafogo team in which Vitinho only missed his own, the fourth shot.
Matheus Martins hit the sixth shot del ‘Fogao’ and gave the qualification to the leader of the Brazilian league, who is looking to win the Libertadores for the first time in its history.
Botafogo will face the winner of the quarterfinals in the semifinals.and Peñarol and Flamengo, which will be decided on Thursday in Montevideo.
