True to its foul essence
The presenter of ‘Lazos de sangre’ talks with La Otra Crnica about the respect he feels for your work, his work as a screenwriter in the Miguel Bos series…
On March 10, the presenter of Blood tiesBoris Izaguirre (56) opened the first Miele store in Las Rozas, in collaboration with Laura Sanchez and Paco Roncero. And there Boris was more concerned with playing with the appliances than with paying attention to his companions. And it is that the Venezuelan found a true amusement park between ovens and dishwashers. “They made me want to keep everything. They are such beautiful appliances… They make you think that what you have at home is worthless! Everything has surprised me. For example, they have a vacuum sealer to turn you into a canning factory , in addition to washing machines that have a drum in which you could make a mini disco. It really has been an incredible morning. I just don’t know why I’m leaving this store! I could make a house here”, he commented amused to LOC.
- We always see him so composed and so fashionable, that it is difficult to imagine him among washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners. Sincrese, do you really like to do housework?
- As lord of the house, I supervise more and more. We have wonderful help, but I think I could defend myself. Because I know how to iron, I have learned to cook – subjected to barbaric pressures – and I feel quite self-sufficient at home. I can clean, I can scrub, I can clean a window, I can vacuum very well. I mean, yes… I can echo everything I saw today in the Miele store. I’m even willing to make preserves instead of buying them!
- From everything you’ve told me, it’s pretty clear that you’re an excellent brand ambassador. But why do you think companies request you so much as an advertising face?
- I think over the years I’ve learned to be more empathetic, which has made me more credible. And I think that highly competitive programs have helped me to do that, to generate greater sympathy with the viewer. Because the public sees you and accompanies you in your effort, in your concentration, your dedication and the image they might have of you, of a face that appears in their homes by imposition, disappears.
- And also the theme that you always stay true to your essence likes a lot. But how does he do it in a medium that is under so much pressure to change to catch the audience?
- It is that I believe that my greatest essence is television. I started writing TV series in my home country and since then, television and I have had a very long relationship, which is based on the fact that we understand each other. I respect television a lot, because it unites with its programs and even unites people through things that can disunite, such as debates or polemics. But that is something that I have learned being on this side, after understanding the dynamics of television, its discipline and even the demands that come with being a face. And maybe that responsibility has changed me. Obviously, I have evolved, but with this I have become a little more adult.
- In Spain, being a “face” does not only mean appearing on the screen, but also attending numerous social events that, in recent years, have become the center of “posturing”. How do you get along with that world?
- I’ve been going to parties since 1981 and social life has always helped me, incorporated me and defended me. I like social life and I have a feeling that social life likes me too. But I don’t believe in posturing, because I’m much older than that generation and I have nothing to recommend them. But I would like to always recognize the paramount importance that social life has for all of us. We have to socialize! If we socialized more, there would be no Vladimir Putin, who is the typical person who has no social life and becomes selfish and unpleasant. A man who doesn’t know how to behave. That is why it is important to learn to share, enjoy and make friends.
- Speaking of Ukraine, there are those who believe that Fashion Week should not have been held due to the crisis a few kilometers from us. What do you think about the subject?
- I’m not at all agree. This is a war waged by a person who feels superior, and I think it is enough that such a war exists without you having to completely upset your commitments as well. And I defend the opposite: you have to maintain life, you have to maintain love and even -in times of war- you have to fall in love more. I believe that this is the true weapon against war and if you feel love for someone or for an event that you organize, you do not have to change it. On the contrary, holding it will make us stronger and end up isolating this brutal enemy.
- You have been involved in many causes and, lately, also in many projects. For example, in the script for the bioseries by Miguel Bos. I know that everything is being shot with absolute secrecy, but tell me about your personal experience.
- It’s so secret that I haven’t been to the shoot. So I can tell you very few things… Like that the series begins where Miguel’s book ends Captain Thunder’s son. But I can tell you that it has been an incredible project, albeit a long one, because the universe of writing always takes time. For example, with my last novel, I promised my publisher that it would be ready in four months and it was the most terrible four years of my life. I lost 20 kilos, the novel swept me away! And it’s always a bit like that. But in this case, the script for Miguel’s series has reaffirmed what I think of him. I think he is a pioneer. And, although it is true that he himself has created a controversy these last two years, I think that over time, people will see him as a person who had a different opinion.
- His friend Miguel is filming his show, his friend Ana Obregn has announced her bioseries. And for when the televised story of Boris?
- There are so many interesting people doing bioseries that mine is superfluous. I already wrote stormy weather, which is a book in which I talk about the importance my mother has had in my life, about her struggle to be an independent person, her education with me… And everything is already in that book. Also, if a series were made about my book, who is going to play Boris? There is no such actor, because I’m not handsome like Miguel or divine like Ana. I couldn’t do it myself. They will have to vacuum pack me with the canning machine! Please make series of all my friends, but not mine.
- His mother has been very important in his career, but so has his father. In fact, in Venezuela he is better known than you… And he is already 91 years old! Would you like to reach that age?
- No! Because she will take away her prominence. And now people in Venezuela even make pilgrimages to see my dad, because they see him as a benchmark in the fight for democracy and culture. And now every time I call, my dad tells me “I’m in a meeting”, he says he’s busy, while my sister Valentina tells me “there are lines and lines of people in the house and there is no way to control that”. And what can I tell you? My dad is happy like this! And I think it’s great, but I don’t see myself in that situation.
