Border with Venezuela: How does it currently work?

In recent years, the border with Venezuela has been partially closed mainly for the passage of vehicles and the commercial exchangea situation that worsened in February 2019, when diplomatic relations were suspended after Nicholas Maduro expel staff and colombian consular.

As reported Colombian Migration from June 02, 2021, the border with Venezuela is open and operating on the Colombian side 24 hours a day, while on the Venezuelan side it is open, on average, from 5 in the morning to 7 at night.

In the case of La Guajira, the transit of people and merchandise, as in Norte de Santander, while in Arauca, Vichada and Guainía, traffic is only pedestrian.

According to the Foreign Ministry, reestablish diplomatic relations between the two countries there must be an approval from the authorities and a two-way meetingafter August 7 to establish how that mechanism would be resumed.

In addition, presidents must establish if they open the embassies or consulates and appoint the diplomatic officials who would lead this mission, through patent letters accrediting officials.
