On the border of Peru with Ecuador there is a portfolio of projects for more than US$750 million that can be carried out under the mechanism of Public Private Partnerships (PPP), according to data from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
These projects are intended to boost infrastructure and services, which will benefit more than four million people in the northern regions of the country. Among the works, the Cajamarca Wastewater Treatment Plant stands out for US$115 million.
Also included are the port terminals of Saramiriza and Iquitos, in Loreto (US$205 million); the Empalme 1B-Huancabamba highway, in Piura (US$179 million); and the “Group 3” electrical package of the Transmission Plan, also in Piura (US$231 million).
According to the MEF, Peru additionally finances 5,147 public investment projects in Tumbes, Piura, Cajamarca, Loreto and Amazonas that require an investment of more than S/30,824 million. These interventions register a financial advance of 28% (S/8,490 million), while the execution of the PIM in these regions reaches 76%, reflecting an acceleration of spending aimed at territorial development.
It should be noted that the head of the MEF, Denisse Miralles, will present the prioritized portfolio for the border in Ecuador, within the framework of President José Jerí’s visit to that country. It will also present the progress for the construction of two new Binational Border Care Centers (CEBAF) on the Sullana-Arenillas (Piura) and Loja-Saramiriza (Cajamarca) roads.
