Border states take precautions against possible mass deportation from the US

Just on Tuesday, Samuel Garciastate leader of Nuevo León, revealed that President Claudia Sheinbaum has already asked the governors of the border states to be prepared.

“We are not talking as such about a deportation strategy, but we are ready in case (deportations) begin in February, so that the states should be attentive,” said the governor after participating in the meeting of the National Conference of Governors (Conago ), which took place in Acapulco, Guerrero and was headed by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

Meanwhile, Federico Rojas Veloquio, Secretary of Labor of NLrecently announced that in the face of a possible “wave” of deportations, the government is already preparing a migrant hiring program.

Rojas Veloquio stated that currently 150,000 migrants are passing through the state in search of the “American dream”, and that of that total, between 5,000 and 8,000 decide to stay and live in the state, for which, he reported, a program has already been developed in coordination with the Secretariat of Equality and Inclusion, led by Martha Herrera González, with the aim of offering them formal employment.

He also called on employers to consider hiring migrants.

On December 6th, Adrián de la Garza, mayor of Monterreyalso revealed that the Mexican Army has already summoned the rural and metropolitan municipalities of Nuevo León to prepare for possible massive migratory actions.

He announced that among the measures considered is the installation of temporary shelters to care for deported migrants. According to the mayor, these spaces will have the support of the federal government, which plans to support the municipalities in their operation.

The governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anayaalso reported this Monday, December 9, that his administration remains on standby in the face of possible mass deportations by the US, since, he acknowledged, the border could be saturated.

“Anticipating that it may exist and above all to expedite precisely the mobilization, mainly of the compatriots who are repatriated so that they have sufficient transportation to re-enter the states where they originate,” he said.

The Morenoist president also highlighted that, if necessary, operations will be established with the three levels of government.

“We will surely be able to handle these repatriated migrants in coordination with the Federal Government without any problem, since we are constantly reviewing the conditions that may exist in different institutions or municipalities,” he expressed.
