The Executive Branch extended the VAT reduction for operations related to tourism
Commercial operations linked to tourism carried out through electronic payment methods will maintain the nine percentage point reduction in the value added tax (VAT). In this way, what was stated in decree no. 318/021, of September 22, 2021, which covers food services, vehicle rentals and hotels, is extended. The measure will be extended until April 30, 2025.
“It is a very important tool,” said the National Director of Tourism, Roque Boudean, during the launch of the first edition of Design Week Uruguay, which will take place in the Plaza de Toros in Colonia.
Baudean welcomed the measure that extends the VAT reduction for operations linked to tourism. The Ministry of Economy’s provision covers gastronomy, rental of vehicles without drivers, mediation services for the rental of tourist properties and catering and services for parties and events.
According to the decree signed by the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, in order to obtain the benefit, the consideration must be made through the use of electronic means of payment.
DESIGN WEEK WILL BRING TOGETHER OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONALS IN THE REGION
The head of the National Directorate of Tourism expressed on September 17 that in addition to the relevance of the event, it is important that the activity is held at the Plaza de Toros in Colonia del Sacramento. He also highlighted the participation of exhibitors from Spain, Chile, Argentina and important representatives from Uruguay.
Design Week Uruguay will take place between October 11 and 13 in Colonia with the aim of contributing to the development of the sector through interaction between the main architectural studios in the region, designers, interior designers, exhibitors, entrepreneurs and commercial brands.
The leader was accompanied at the launch by Laura Pittaluga, managing partner of the activity, and Martín De Freitas, director of Tourism of Colonia, among other authorities.
The activity was declared of interest by the Executive Branch.
