One of the highlights of the Fiesta de la Cubanía, which ended Thursday in Bayamo, was the presentation of the book You have to believe in Cubainterviews with Dr. Eusebio Leal conducted by Magda Resik, Director of Communication of the Office of the Historian of Havana.
The historian of Bayamo, Ludín Bernardo Fonseca García, said that the book shows a Leal that we admire for his solid Cuban and universal culture, and that in its pages there are very profound assessments of historical personalities, in addition to his views on the battle of Las Guásimas, the Zanjón Pact, the US military intervention and the triumph of the revolution.
“By reading it, once again we confirm that Eusebio always said what he thought in the most beautiful, cultured and truthful way about historical events or about the moments that he lived through,” he said.
“The work reveals passages from his private life such as his predilection for wearing gray and why he stopped using cell phones. He bequeaths us a teaching and teaching to restore, which constitutes the basis of the Cuban school of restoration”.
“Without a doubt, the history of Cuba during the last sixty years cannot be written without that of Eusebio Leal. We cannot err on the side of exaggeration when saying that his work symbolized the spirit of the nation”.
For his part, Resik alluded to the impossibility of covering Eusebio Leal in a small book, although he tried to collect several interviews conducted from 1996 to his last days.
The author highlighted that the Historian of the City of Havana constantly repeated to them that it could not be restored if the past was not rescued and the future was thought of, whose conservation had to be done with an inhabited city.
“Like a great teacher, he knew how to alternate greatness and humility in a sensational way, because he was able to speak with the simplest of Cubans and in the same way with kings and presidents.”
“With this book we started a collection called the Historian, which will bring together all the documents, stories and facts related to Eusebio Leal. It is necessary to perpetuate it and make it transcend, because in a frank dialogue he expressed that he longed to be remembered for having been useful to his people and to his time, ”he concluded.
