The 14 skeletons found on board a boat on the coast of Río San Juan, María Trinidad Sánchez province, were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago for identification and determination of the causes of death.
The information was released by the head prosecutor of the Espaillat province, Yorelbin Rivas, who indicated that the transfer took place around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“The autopsy process will begin today. Since there are so many people, I believe a multidisciplinary commission will be involved,” Rivas said.
He added that the skeletons belong to citizens of Senegal and Mauritania (Africa), countries from which they will request international cooperation to advance the investigative process.
“Today the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic “After receiving the notes, he was going to communicate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the corresponding international cooperation procedures,” said the prosecutor.
As for the 12 packages of an unknown substance that were also found inside a backpack on the boat, he said they will be analyzed to determine their contents.
It is recalled that, according to the authorities, the boat was located on the high seas after receiving an alert from a local fisherman. It was then towed to Adames beach.
